Police: Man Shot by Officers Pointed Shotgun At Them

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A man suffered non-life-threatening injuries after police shot him Monday night.

According to Metro Police, they were called to a home on University Avenue near Harmon Avenue and Pecos Road at around 9:30 p.m. Monday. A man had called to report that his roommate was suicidal and had injected himself with dog insulin.

Police also say the man reported there was a shotgun in the apartment.

When police arrived, they located the man, identified as Jose Luis Aguilar, and asked him to come outside. After several attempts, Aguilar finally walked out of the home with a shotgun, police said.

Officers ordered him to put the gun on the ground and lay face down, which he did. While Aguilar was crawling towards the officers, police say he jumped up and tried to grab the shotgun.

Officers open fired shooting, and Aguilar fell to the ground. When one officer approached him, he grabbed the gun again and pointed it at the officers, who fired again hitting him in the leg, police said.

Aguilar's roommate, who made the initial call to police, told police he saw Aguilar point the shotgun at police.

Aguilar has been charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer and one count of resisting a public officer. He was booked in absentia at the Clark County Detention Center because he is still being treated for a gunshot wound.
