Police Investigate Homicide at South Point Casino

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police have arrested a man in connection with a homicide at the South Point Casino.

Police say they arrested 22-year-old Matejs Balodis, who is a foreign national, for open murder. Officers were called to the hotel at around 6:20 p.m. Monday to investigate a report of a fight.

When they arrived, hotel security had taken Balodis into custody. Officers then investigated the room where the fight had happened. They found the victim unconscious and unresponsive.

Officers provided emergency first aid until medical personnel arrived. The victim was taken to St. Rose Siena Hospital where he died.

During the investigation, homicide detectives found that the two men had recently met and an attempted robbery may have led to fight in the hotel room.

The identity and cause of death for the victim will be released by the Clark County Coroner's Office.

This is the 102nd homicide to happen with in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
