CENTENNIAL, Colo. --  One student is in critical condition and another suffered minor injuries in a shooting at a school in suburban Denver, according to law enforcement.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson also says the suspected shooter died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The shooting happened just after noon at Arapahoe High School in Centennial.

The school is about 8 miles east of Columbine High School in Littleton, where two teenage shooters killed 12 classmates and a teacher before killing themselves in 1999.

The high school, with a student population of 2,229 students, has 70 classrooms. The school, which was built in 1964, is part of the Littleton Public Schools system.
