SNWA GM Announces Date to Retire

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- The head of the Southern Nevada Water Authority announced Thursday her plans to leave the agency in February.

SNWA General Manager Pat Mulroy says she is leaving her post Feb. 6.

In September, Mulroy announced her plans to retire. She has led the SNWA since it was created in 1991. Before that, she headed the Las Vegas Valley Water District.

In her retirement letter, Mulroy wrote that it has been an honor for her to lead Southern Nevada's water agencies and she thanked the boards of both agencies for the unprecedented challenges they faced. "The challenges will not disappear, but I am confident that your continue stewardship of our most precious resource will not be compromised and will become the bedrock of a bright new economic future for the entire region."

Mulroy has come under fire for her salary, which is one of the largest for public officials, and her support for the pipeline to bring water from rural counties to southern Nevada.
