LAS VEGAS -- The University of North Texas made it official Thursday and named Neal Smatresk the new president of UNT.

UNT's Board of Regents voted unanimously to approve Smatresk's hire. He was named as the sole finalist last month, but there was a 21-day waiting period before regents could vote to appoint him.

"It is an incredible privilege to be selected as the next president of the University of North Texas. My wife Debbie and I are excited about returning to Texas and becoming members of the UNT community," Smatresk said.

Smatresk was appointed as president of UNLV in 2009.
