LAS VEGAS -- A fugitive from California is in custody following a standoff in Las Vegas that lasted more than six hours.

Metro Police say murder suspect William Gardner barricaded himself at the 4800 block of East Tropicana Avenue at the Camden Point Apartments.

Investigators said the incident started at around 4:40 p.m. Monday after investigators tracked Gardner to the apartments, and he refused to leave.

SWAT and the Crisis Negotiator Team responded to the scene and started talking with Gardner. During the conversation, they found out another man, a woman and her child were inside the apartment.

Gardner and the woman refused to leave, but the second man in the apartment did agree to surrender to officers.

Several hours later 24-year-old Brittany Ulmer walked out with her child. At about 12:40 a.m., Gardner surrendered to officers. Police also arrested Ulmer on charges of obstructing a public officer.

He is accused of shooting to death his ex-girlfriend Leslie Pinkston in November. She was killed just outside her workplace in Winters, California.

Gardner disappeared after he made bail, sparking a nationwide manhunt. He talked with the CBS station in Sacramento while the standoff in Las Vegas was underway.

"I do know this, that even if I tell police the full story, the full story is never going to come out. It's just never going to come out. That's just how the cookie crumbles," he said.
