LAS VEGAS -- A Las Vegas father is mourning the death of his son who was shot by Metro Police at an apartment complex near Flamingo Road and Boulder Highway.

Police say the parents of a suicidal man called 9-1-1 for help Saturday around 2 a.m. The man walked outside the apartment with a pistol in his hand and two rifles strapped on his shoulders, police said.

Dan Unger says he watched the shooting of his son, Patrick, unfold in front of him.

"I think my son was doing a cry out for help, to help me to get back into movies. I really believe this," Unger said.

According to police, Patrick Heki, fired shots at officers in the middle of the Mountain Vista Apartments and the officers returned fire. Unger was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Unger believes his son was trying to get attention to help him get back into the movie business. Dan Unger is a former Hollywood stuntman.

Unger said Patrick shot himself in the face two years earlier and had been suffering from depression since that time.

Friday night the 26-year-old and his parents discussed the father's ailing career and in a fit of rage, Unger said, Patrick shot a gun inside their apartment. Patrick's mother made the call to 9-1-1.

Unger said he plans to take legal action against Metro Police because his son did not hurt anyone and did not point his weapons at police when he walked outside.

"When he went down, he leaned forward, the two rifles are pointing because it's on his shoulders, on his straps. Away from triggers, his hands are still above his head. He got about that height and they lit him up."

Unger said he heard 40 to 50 gunshots from police and then he watched three officers jump on his son and punch him.

According to Metro, three officers were involved in the shooting. Their names are expected to be released by Monday.

Unger said his son had never been in trouble with the law before.
