Ex-Foster Mom Enters Plea in Child Injury Case

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A 36-year-old former Las Vegas foster mother pleaded not guilty to a felony child neglect charge accusing her of leaving a 2-year-old boy in the care of a man accused of badly injuring him.

Kasondra Martinsen appeared for arraignment Thursday with her lawyer, Augustus Claus, on an indictment filed Nov. 20 in Clark County District Court. She's free on $40,000 bail.

Osbaldo "Nanno" Sanchez was charged separately with shaking the child in November 2012. Police say the boy suffered brain damage.

Sanchez has pleaded not guilty to child abuse and neglect charges. He's due for trial March 10.

Judge Douglas Herndon set Martinsen's trial for May 19.

She is accused of covering for Sanchez by saying the child hit his head while she was giving him a bath.
