DA Finds NHP Trooper Acted Lawfully in Man's Death

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson released a report Monday that shows the Nevada Highway Patrol trooper involved in the death of Alejandro Sanchez-Escoto acted reasonably and lawfully.

"Mr. Sanchez-Escoto was running from NHP Trooper Nicholas Montgomery. He ignored several commands from Trooper Montgomery to stop, and in an attempt to flee, Mr. Sanchez-Escoto chose to jump a barrier along the 215 beltway at Decatur. He fell more than 26 feet onto southbound travel lanes of Decatur Blvd.", District Attorney Steve Wolfson said. "The autopsy report indicated there was methamphetamine in Mr. Sanchez-Escoto's system. This was a tragic incident."

There was no evidence to suggest the two men had any physical contact prior to Sanchez-Escoto's deadly fall.
