Renovated Shopping Center Ready for Grand Opening

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- For more than a year, The Village Square shopping center at the corner of Ft. Apache Road and Sahara Avenue has under gone a much needed renovation, which has included new stores, new restaurants and new services.

One of the new restaurants is Settebello Pizzeria Napoletana. This is the second location for the popular eatery.

It has only been open for three weeks, but the general manager says it is doing well.

Customer Roy Hidrosollo is pleased with the changes at the shopping center, especially the food selections.

"It is definitely foodie paradise," Hidrosollo said. "I've noticed, quality wise, it is top notch and unique."

There are 24 new tenants in the center. A spokesperson says it is now 74 percent full and new tenants are in the works.

When the new owners took over in 2011, the center was a little more than halfway full.

At the stationery and gift boutique Alligator Soup, which has been here for 14 years, owner Helen Edell remembers the days of low capacity at the center.

"Customers don't want to come to a shopping center that looks like a ghost town, which is what we had theoretically become," Edell said.

She says after the makeover, business is slowly improving.

"It was a long process and a little difficult at times, but the end result was more than worthwhile," Edell said.

The renovation included a new parking lot, a new paint job, new seating, and more.

"At the point that we purchased it, it was very unloved, and so we threw the love into it, and we can see the fruits of our labor," marketing director Lauran Roberson said.

The new image is bringing an estimated 350 new jobs to the area.

Settebello's general manager says it has hired 35 new people to serve eager customers.

"It has been going great. We have been building week after week. Great sales, it is a great area, very well received in the area," Roberson said.

Besides restaurants, there is a new yoga studio, a new salon and more.

A ribbon cutting for the newly renovated center is set for 11 a.m. Friday. It will be followed by events to celebrate the grand opening this weekend, including a free concert by "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks.
