NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- A North Las Vegas man is under arrest on charges connected to the crash that left a 17-year-old mom dead, North Las Vegas Police announced Thursday.

According to police, officers arrested Leonard Novell Ward II on six felony charges in connection with the crash Halloween night. The charges include reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, one count of DUI causing death and two counts of DUI causing substantial bodily harm.

Police say he was traveling more than 77 mph in a 45 mph zone when the crash happened and he was driving under the influence of alcohol.

Savannah McGinnis' mother Julie's new reality is slowly setting in. The memorial for her daughter is still up two weeks later in her living room with police having made an arrest in the crash that claimed savannah's life.

"My first instinct was to scream, I screamed with joy, I screamed with sorrow," McInnis said. "I screamed with just elation that whoever did this to my little girl, now justice needs to be served."

The McGinnis family is finding a way to move on and support savannah's 2-year-old autistic son Cayden. Savannah's fiancé promises to keep her a part of her son's life.

"She took him to therapy meetings everyday, took him to classes, and she spent every second of her life trying to make sure her son was the best he could be," Savannah's Fiancé Jacob Varsalona said.

Police say Ward was driving west on Ann Road near Coleman Street when he struck the passenger side of the car that McInnis was riding in.

Her 2-year-old son was also in the car but he received minor injuries. Her boyfriend's aunt and uncle were also in the car and were seriously hurt. The 74-year-old male victim is still in the hospital in critical condition.
