Ideas on How to Help a Military Family This Holiday Season

Posted: Updated:

Many of our current and former service members are doing well financially, able to support their families and lead a productive life. But many others are not so lucky.

Did you know that the base pay for a Staff Sergeant (E5) in the Air Force with 10 years of service is only $35,935? It is a real challenge to feed a family of four at that income level.

So, if you are looking for a way to support a military family this holiday season, we've gathered a list of organizations and programs raising money for those in uniform.

  • VFW Post 10047 Adopt a Family
"The Adopt A Military Family Program was created with the intent of showing our immense gratitude to military families and to provide a little holiday help to families experiencing financial hardship."
  • Holiday Food Baskets
Food basket distribution for active duty, guard, reserve, veterans, wounded and fallen families. Focus on E5 and below.
  • Nellis Support Team Fundraiser Benefiting Operation Warm Heart
"During what has proven to be another extremely trying year, Nellis Support Team once again is doing everything we can to deliver provisions of a holiday dinner, clothing and toys to what we know to be approximately 250 military families on base in need of assistance."
  • Operation Homefront Nevada
A number of events including a Veterans Day fundraiser at BJ's Restaurant
