8 on Your Side Breaks Down the Best Casino Bets

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - It often takes a little luck to win big in Las Vegas, but players don't have to rely on it. Knowing which games give you the best odds helps, and that has nothing to do with luck and a lot to do with math.

Statisticians at UNLV recently determined which games are best to play if you want to win. The best game, according to the numbers, is bingo. The taller the line on the bar graph, the more likely you're going to lose at that game. The shorter the line, the better your odds.

"Bingo has a higher winner percentage for the player, because a lot more of the money goes out in jackpots of bingo, said UNLV Center for Gaming Research Director David Schwartz.

Bingo is not your only option, however. Slot machines could win you money, as could sports betting. You are not likely to win big jackpots, however, when playing these games.

Games like craps, baccarat and blackjack increase your odds for a good payday, but they require more skill.

"Craps and baccarat both have relatively good whole percentages for the player," Schwartz said. "They are still both negative expectation games, so over time, the player will lose. But, they are better than other games like American roulette. Blackjack is also pretty good if you know what you're doing."

For example, a smart blackjack player knows not to hit on 15 when the dealer is showing a deuce.

When it comes to winning big, you might have to choose a card table. Three-card poker is the game in which you are most likely to lose, but it offers a large payoff if you win.

"Games like three-card poker and keno tend to have higher whole percentages. They offer the chance for a bigger jackpot, something that could change your life. But, a lot of times people don't get that, and people end up losing and not getting the smaller wins that other games might have," Schwartz said.
