LAS VEGAS - Drivers say they see an enormous amount of traffic exiting I-15 south to Blue Diamond Road. Traffic routinely backs up to the freeway exit.
The problem originates at a broken pedestrian signal on the northeast corner of the intersection. The signal pole was damaged due to a car crash.
Clark County and FAST officials installed "recalls" to maintain timing for pedestrians. Recalls cause the pedestrian walk signal to be displayed every signal cycle, as opposed to only when the button is pushed.
This led to the increased wait time for cars, but there was no other way to give pedestrians a walk sign on that leg of the intersection. It was a necessary move for the safety of those on foot.
Crews are working this week to replace the pole and reconnect wiring. Once county workers are finished, RTC FAST will restore the timing pattern of the signal. The intersection will likely return to normal operation in less than a week.
