LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has identified the officer involved in the shooting of an unarmed man Monday as 29-year-old Jason Evans.
Evans has been on the force since March 2008. He is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
Evans shot a man he believed was a murder suspect at a convenience store near Nellis Boulevard and Stewart Avenue. According to police, Evans says he ordered the man to show his hands, but the man showed one hand and started backing away. Police say Evans claimed he felt threatened and opened fire.
The man is not a suspect in a murder. He was taken to University Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
