8 on Your Side: Door Advertisement Raises Questions

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A credit counseling and repair company is soliciting Las Vegas residents for business, but the company's advertising practices raise questions.

Several Las Vegas homeowners found ads on their front doors that make significant accusations.

The door hanger ad reads, "Call us immediately. We want to discuss errors on your credit file." The ad includes a number for people to call, but no company name or other identifying information.

8 on Your Side called the number and found it belongs to a company called Trycera which sells budgeting software for $500. In other words, the ad is nothing more than a sales pitch.

Recipients of this ad may not have credit problems at all. The ad's makers are merely using scare tactics to get people to buy an expensive product.

Budgeting software is a great tool, but people don't need to spend $500 on it. Free budgeting tools can be found online. Free budgeting and credit repair help is also available at the Consumer Credit Counseling Service.

Once 8 on Your Side investigated the Trycera ads, company officials agreed to change the wording. The ads now warn recipients of "possible" problems with credit reports. People who receive these ads should remember it's just a sales pitch.

If you have a problem you want investigated, contact 8 on Your Side at 702-650-1907.
