11 years is a big year of change and growth for most young men. Dave Courvoisier introduces us to Wednesday's Child today.
For an energetic wide-eyed kid like Jesse, Pole Position was the perfect place to meet... Only I had a hard time getting his attention with all the distractions.
I finally got him to play me -- and beat me -- in a game of air hockey. Jesse's got plenty on the ball...something his case workers made clear:
"He loves table games. As you can tell on that air hockey and he beat you in air hockey. He loves ping-pong, he's a reader, he loves to read, so a lot of times on his down time, you will catch and reading," says Rich, an adoption recruiter for DFS.
Jesse joined the other kids you'll meet on Wednesday's Child in the weeks ahead, on the track for pre-race training, but you could tell he couldn't wait to climb behind the wheel... And you'll forgive him for being impatient... He's been waiting for a family for a long time.
"He's been in care since he was two years old, and the reason he's been in care so long, is through that whole process his mom was working on being reunified with him, but it didn't pan out that way, she didn't fill her obligations so here we are," explains Rich.
Jesse's a good all-American kid who needs the structure, and love, and a place to feel secure.
"I would say Jesse is he's ready to be adopted, he's ready to find that loving family, that he can love back, because as you can tell, he's just a loving and caring kid. 'A perfect home would be a patient, a very patient home with Jesse. Someone who knows that some of the things he's gone through, that sometimes it would take some children to even bond and Jesse is ready to bond.
Jesse needs to stay in touch with some family that lives in Southern Nevada. If that's not a problem for you, and you want to begin the process of his adoption, call the local office of the Adoption Exchange now at 436-6335.
