LAS VEGAS -- The Nevada National Guard is recalling more than 500 federal technicians to return to work Tuesday. The workers were furloughed because of the government shutdown.
The furloughed staff included both military and civilians, who take care of everything from administration to maintenance.
While the workers were gone, the Nevada Guard's full-time active guard and reserves filled in the gap. They maintained regular business hours for all Nevada Guard offices and armories.
The shutdown also forced the guard to postpone a drill last week that would have involved about 4,400 guardsmen.
The Nevada National Guard includes more than 3,200 soldiers and 1,150 airmen from across the state.
