Driving You Crazy: Ramp Meter at Decatur and U.S. 95

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - A viewer says the ramp meter from Decatur Boulevard onto northbound U.S. 95 has been off for weeks.

Traffic8 looked into it and found it was a faulty ramp meter. Crews adjusted the detection process and physical equipment. The ramp meter is once again operating.

However, that ramp meter won't always be on. Typically, they operate weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Ramp meters include built-in sensors to detect traffic flow. In the afternoon, ramp meters on U.S. 95 west of downtown are programmed to operate this way, meaning they will only turn on if congestion is developing on the freeway mainline.

They will stay activated until the congestion ends. This avoids an overflow of cars moving onto a packed freeway.
