Acts of Kindness: Mary Felgar

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Mary Felgar is known as "The Singing Lady". "I've been singing since I was a little girl," she said.

Her weekly visits to the Prestige Nursing Home are extremely uplifting.

"I love God. I want to serve Him. I love music, and I love people," she said. "I'm sure you noticed the looks in their faces as we were singing today on how to be able to respond to them and encourage them. I want no one forgotten."

No one feels left out. Felgar has been singing to the residents of Prestige for more than a decade.

"I think the longevity is really good for the workers that are here, to let other people know that they are cared about," she said.

Felgar and her husband of 52 years, Roger, are retired educators. After more than 30 years in valley classrooms, he dutifully chauffeurs her around town for what's turned into a very busy, diverse and fulfilling volunteer schedule.

"I've been volunteering at nursing homes ever since I was a kid, so I had a dream that I would go back to that when I retired," Mary said.

"Knowing how many years that she served… she does it from a pure heart," said Central Christian Church Pastor of Women's Ministry Rhonda Baker.

8 News NOW decided to reward Mary Felgar for her efforts, giving her $800 as part of its weekly series Acts of Kindness.
