HENDERSON, Nev. - One viewer says he constantly sees pedestrians crossing Green Valley Parkway at Legacy Drive to get to Parkway Springs Plaza. He worries someone will get hurt, because there is no crosswalk.
Traffic8 called for a study of this intersection. The City of Henderson initiated the study to examine the feasibility of a mid-block crosswalk.
Henderson officials say this intersection presents challenges for drivers and pedestrians, due to the curvature of Green Valley Parkway. The study will determine if that mid-block crosswalk is warranted.
Mid-block crosswalks are locations between intersections where a marked crosswalk has been provided. These types of crossings are often installed to provide more frequent crossing opportunities to pedestrian destinations. In this case, that destination is Parkway Springs Plaza, where a Food-4-Less, Wells Fargo and McDonald's are located. That's where pedestrians are heading.
If a mid-block crosswalk is justified, it would require flashing beacons and reconstruction of the ADA ramps. Traffic8 will update the status of this intersection once the study is complete.
