Report: Nevada Weekly Earnings Making Weak Recovery

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- Researchers at the University of Nevada Las Vegas say Nevadans' incomes are behind the curve of recovery.

A report released Monday by UNLV's Center for Business and Economic Research shows Nevadans' average weekly earnings this August were nearly 8 percent below what they were in August 2007.

The trend is the opposite at the national level. Private sector workers nationwide were earning nearly 16 percent more this August than they were six years earlier.

Researchers pointed to a large drop in the number of hours Nevadans are working each week. Hours are down about 9 percent over the past six years in Nevada.

Report authors say employees in the hospitality sector were working relatively long hours before the recession, but have seen their weekly hours drop 15 percent since then.
