January is the most popular month for gambling both statewide and on the Las Vegas Strip, according to gaming revenue figures from the UNLV Center for Gaming Research and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Conversely, June is the slowest month.

A review of data from 2004 through 2012 shows that casinos generated more than $8.8 billion statewide and $4.9 billion on the Strip in January. June brought up the rear with $7.94 billion statewide and $4.1 billion on the Strip.

Annual January gaming highlights include major college football bowl games and National Football League playoffs. In addition to having tourists who extend their visits beyond New Year's Day, Las Vegas plays host in January to the popular Consumer Electronics Show.
