LAS VEGAS - A viewer says traffic is a nightmare at Tarkanian Middle School. She says the nearby intersection of Pyle Avenue and Jones Boulevard needs a traffic light, especially when children are traveling to and from school.
With one stop sign, traffic is often backed up on Pyle, and Jones often contains gridlock. If drivers try to turn around and head east on Pyle, they encounter a dead end.
Between children trying to cross congested streets, and cars trying to drive through, delays and danger are the norm in this school zone.
Help is on the way, however. Traffic8 was able to get the county to launch a traffic study and collect data at Jones and Pyle to determine if it meets requirements for a multi-way stop or traffic signal. That study is scheduled for late September.
County officials are also working with Tarkanian Middle School regarding the school's traffic concerns. Crews installed several ‘No U-Turn' signs and new pavement markings along the school frontage on Pyle.
Crews also installed flashing beacons on Jones and marked crosswalks on Pyle. If a four-way stop or traffic light becomes a reality, perhaps drivers can feel better about the safety of the students.
