LAS VEGAS - A viewer says the pedestrian signal at Smoke Ranch Road and Michael Way has stopped working. He wants to know when it will be fixed.
This complication creates crossing issues, because pedestrians are unable to alert drivers of their intentions. Once Traffic8 alerted the city of this problem, city crews acted quickly.
Last week, the city sent two crews to Smoke Ranch and Michael to investigate. They ran the pedestrian signal through a re-creation of typical demands, checked displays and push-button operations and tested the timing of the pedestrian walk and clear intervals. That's the time it takes to cross the street.
The city found the signal operating, as designed, with enough time for pedestrians to cross the road whenever the button was pushed.
Either one of the crews' steps fixed the issue, or the problem was isolated – perhaps due to a rare occurrence such as a power outage.
Everything at this intersection is now working as it should, so this problem is solved.
