NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. - A viewer says a crosswalk is needed at Decatur Boulevard and El Campo Grande Avenue to eliminate or reduce the danger for pedestrians.
Traffic8 sent this request to North Las Vegas City officials, along with a request to Las Vegas City officials for a crosswalk at Charleston Boulevard and Redwood Street. Traffic 8 helped secure a crosswalk at the latter intersection and achieved success with Decatur and El Campo Grande.
The City of Las Vegas, which took over the request from North Las Vegas, took two steps toward pedestrian safety. Originally, the intersection included a flasher, but city representatives determined a bi-modal flasher was a better fit, because they identified this as a pedestrian crossing and a school crossing.
A bi-modal flasher is a device that flashes for school zones. Outside of school zone hours, pedestrians can push a button to activate the warning flasher.
The bi-modal flasher is now used with the crosswalk to create a double dose of safety for those on foot. These improvements make this a much safer crossing for all pedestrians, including school children.
