8 on Your Side Helps Man Replace Damaged TV

LAS VEGAS - Wayne Smalley loves his Sharp television. His feelings about Sharp, however, soured soon after he bought a television from the company.

"It is an excellent TV. The company, not so much," he said.

The TV was perfect out of the box, but once he hung it on the wall according to their detailed instructions, the internal screen cracked badly.

"You know, a crack like a bat wing," he said.

Within moments, the screen went black. So, he called Sharp to file a warranty claim. What they told him surprised him.

"The girl says, ‘We've never opened a case, but you may be the first one.' That was the attitude," he said.

Smalley and Sharp went back and forth for days. Sharp's final offer was to sell him another television.

"At $2,825, that was their cost, and they wouldn't go any lower," Smalley said.

Unhappy with that answer, he contacted 8 on Your Side.

8 on Your Side e-mailed Sharp to explain the situation, ask why Smalley's warranty didn't cover the damaged TV and see if a solution could be found. That e-mail produced results.

"Sharp called me and told me they were replacing the set, shipping included," Smalley said.

Now, he has a working TV, and he's enjoying it to the fullest. He says he'll never move it again. "It is going to stay on that wall, probably sell it with the house," he said.
