LAS VEGAS -- The Swiss airline, Edelweiss Air, will offer non-stop service between Zurich and Las Vegas in May 2014.

"We realized the strong demand for this route from the Swiss market, and are more than happy to meet the wish of so many Swiss people who want to travel to the Entertainment Capital of the World with our new service," said Karl Kistler, chief executive officer of Edelweiss Air.

The carrier will initially operate on Mondays and Fridays. McCarran International Airport is the carrier's second U.S. airport in its international network.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority predicts visitors who arrive in southern Nevada on Edelweiss Air will generate more than $19.6 million annually in nongaming economic impact.
