LAS VEGAS - Some of the world's most innovative minds are in Las Vegas this week for the first South by Southwest V2V conference.

The event, a spin-off of South by Southwest's annual event in Austin, Texas, aims to connect entrepreneurs and investors.

SXSW V2V's entrance marks a significant coup for Las Vegas. Our city's emergence as an incubator for technological start-up companies made it an attractive location for SXSW organizers. More than 300 start-ups call Las Vegas home.

South by Southwest combines networking opportunities for innovators and investors with a music, film and interactive festival. Austin, Texas, this year, held its 26th SXSW event.

Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce officials say tech start-ups participating in SXSW V2V want to catch a glimpse of business activity in Las Vegas.

This also puts the chamber in a position to identify and help local start-ups. South by Southwest encourages innovation, which is why the chamber says organizers had to choose Las Vegas.

"I think it really is a testament, both to Las Vegas being the best place in the world to host this convention, as well as the emergence of this unbelievable tech scene that we've had here that's taken place both downtown and with Switch and innovation," said Adam Kramer with the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.

The chamber says this is a unique movement, because tech businesses often do not see each other as competition. Rather, they support one another, so they all succeed. That spirit of cooperation can be found in downtown Las Vegas, where numerous start-ups share space to keep costs down.

Cubby Road is one of the local businesses that will be featured at South by Southwest this week. Founder Jonas Acres created Cubby Road as a one-stop shop to help parents find suitable, licensed childcare facilities along their commute to work.

"Certainly, I have great expectations for SXSW. It's always hard to guess what will happen at a SXSW event or anything of that magnitude. All I know is we're very excited," Acres said. "There's so much passion and energy here that is so easy to tap into, it's hard to say no to a place like Las Vegas."

Acres says Las Vegas has always attracted innovative entrepreneurs. He says he expects SXSW to generate additional excitement.
