LAKE MEAD, Nev. -- A 23-year-old man from North Las Vegas is missing in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
The man was last seen in the water roughly a mile north of Cottonwood Cove on Sunday afternoon.
At 3:35 p.m., lake officials received a call from the Nevada Department of Wildlife reporting that a man went missing in the lake.
Witnesses said he and two others jumped off a boat to go swimming when the boat drifted away. Passengers on board were able to rescue two of the people, but the third was not found. The missing man was not wearing a lifejacket.
A search effort was suspended Sunday because of darkness around 8:30 p.m., and was resumed around 8:30 a.m. Monday. About 15 people from the National Park Service, NDOW and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Search and Rescue are searching the area using sonar and divers. The area where the man was last seen is approximately 50-60 feet deep.
