Las Vegas Bloggers Share Shopping Tips

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - This week, 8 News NOW teamed with four local women to find the best back-to-school shopping deals. They offer their tips on how to get the best bang for your buck.

Four Las Vegas bloggers were put to the test this week with one goal: buy the most school supplies for $88 each.

In the end, one woman prevailed: Billie Hillier. She purchased 163 back-to-school items for $87.83. She credits her price matching strategy.

These women, through their blogs, all share great advice all year long on how to get the most bang for your buck.

Abigail Peterson runs the blog Lovin' Our Chaos. "I started blogging in 2007. It started as an online scrapbook for family and kids," she said.

She says she met other Las Vegas bloggers. The four women agree the blogosphere opened a new world for them.

"Many opportunities, different ways to help out the community," said Daisy Teh, who runs the blog The It Mom. "Now, we have several thousand people on there, looking at deals and match-ups we've got every week. It really started with trying to make a difference."

They hope to influence and encourage other parents with smart shopping tips. They plan to continue saving when shopping for other items such as clothes and shoes.

"There are outlet stores we will visit. I'll sign up for a newsletter – fifty percent off coupon," said Hillier, who runs the blog Frugal Ferret.

They say deals can also be found at consignment shops, sales and swaps.

"I'm also a member of a group on Facebook, ‘Tots Clothes Swap', said Desiree Peeples, who runs the blog Mommy Reporter. "Moms get together, and we swap out clothes - size four for another moms size five."

Time is running out to buy back to school supplies. The first day of school is August 26.
