FBI Prostitution Sting Helps Two Children in Nevada

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Two children were recovered between July 25-28 in Nevada as part of a nationwide FBI sweep targeting underage prostitution.

FBI officials said Monday they worked with local and state authorities, including Metro's Vice Enforcement Teams, in 76 cities across 47 FBI divisions nationwide and recovered 105 children.

Additionally, 150 pimps were arrested on state and federal charges. One suspected pimp was arrested in Las Vegas and two were arrested in Reno.

A 14-year-old girl was rescued in Reno. Reno police said the girl from Sacramento, Calif., was found Friday night following an operation targeting an Internet website posting for prostitution.

Police say two people from Carmichael, Calif., were arrested on charges related to sexually exploiting the child. Shanequa Charles of Carmichael, Calif., was being held without bail on multiple charges. Jamourian Charles was being held in $22,500 bail.

Operation Cross Country is part of the Innocence Lost National Initiative established in 2003 in partnership with the Department of Justice and NCMEC to address the growing problem of child prostitution.

The operation also resulted in the arrests of 53 suspected adult prostitutes in Nevada, 41 of which were in Las Vegas.

Information from the Associated Press was used in this report.
