U.S. Forest Service Reopens Select Mt. Charleston Areas

MOUNT CHARLESTON, Nev. - The U.S. Forest Service is reopening some areas of Mt. Charleston, beginning at 8 a.m. Friday after wildfires ravaged the area.

The Forest Service says it will reopen the following trails: Bristlecone, Trail Canyon to Highway 158, Robbers Roost, Telephone Canyon, Fletcher Canyon, Mary Jane Falls and North Loop to the junction with Trail Canyon.

The Forest Service will also reopen Cathedral Rock, Deer Creek, Sawmill, and Lee Meadows picnic areas. Fletcher View will be open for day use only. Hilltop Campground and the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort are open to camping.

Several other trails and recreation sites remain closed. Entry into the Carpenter 1 fire area is also prohibited. Authorities are allowing access to recreation sites in Kyle Canyon for day use only.
