I-Team: Lawsuit Against Former Governor Settled

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- A lawsuit by a woman against former Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons regarding a 2006 incident has been settled out of court, according to documents obtained Thursday by the I-Team.

Weeks before the 2006 Nevada gubernatorial election, Chrissy Mazzeo accused then-candidate Gibbons of sexually harassing her in a parking garage near Flamingo Road and Paradise Road after a night out at a nearby restaurant. Gibbons denied the allegations and went on to defeat then-State Sen. Dina Titus in the election.

The agreement indicates a settlement is in place between Mazzeo and defendants Gibbons, former Metro Police Sheriff Bill Young, political consultant Sig Rogich and Penny Mossett-Puhek.

Gibbons attorney Pat Lundvall said, "This ends very favorably for him."

An I-Team source confirmed that Mazzeo will receive $50,000 as part of the settlement, split evenly among the four defendants.

Attorney Don Campbell, previously named as a defendant, was removed from the suit in recent months. The I-Team is working to obtain details of the settlement.

Mazzeo attorney Robert Kossack said, "She wants to go on with her life."
