LAS VEGAS -- A retired Metro deputy chief was arrested Tuesday night after an altercation with a North Las Vegas police captain.

Fifty-nine-year-old Carl Fruge was arrested in what began as a minor traffic accident on private property near Durango Road and U.S. 95.

Fruge was in a parking lot with the female driver of the vehicle when an on-duty, plain clothes North Las Vegas police captain was driving by and stopped. At some point, a physical altercation between Fruge and the officer ensued. The officer is identified by police sources as Capt. Frank DeMartino.

As a result, Metro officers were called to the scene and arrested Fruge for battery of a police officer and DUI.

Fruge was placed in the Las Vegas Detention Center on a 12-hour hold as a result of the DUI charge.
