Car Company Moving Headquarters Closer to Las Vegas Strip

LAS VEGAS -- Shelby American is moving its global headquarters to a new facility near the Las Vegas Strip.

Shelby American is one of the strongest independent automotive brands in the world, but the company's president often says Shelby is Las Vegas' best-kept secret.

Die-hard car enthusiasts know to head to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway to find Shelby American.

"I think the real Shelby fans know where it is now, but I think they're going to pick up a lot more fans by moving it to the Strip," said Woody Van Oosbree, who was visiting from Apple Valley, California.

John Luft, president of Shelby American, gave a behind-the-scenes tour.

"This is where we build the late-model Shelby vehicles," Luft said "A GT350 comes in as a Mustang and gets converted to a Shelby GT350."

The late Carroll Shelby brought the company to Las Vegas 14 years ago.

Now, the factory and the Shelby Speed Shop and Museum with its multi-million dollar Shelby car collection are headed to a larger facility near I-15 and the 215 southern beltway.

"They would catch a lot more people coming from California." Shelby owner from Las Vegas Denny Kern said.

"We now position ourselves in the heart of the most vibrant city, Las Vegas, Nevada." Luft said.

Shelby American now employs more than 100 people, turning out only seven to ten Shelbys a week. However, as the business grows, so could the number of employees, Luft said.

The Shelby focus may be affordable, but if you want to be in the driver's seat of the Shelby 1000, expect to pay a little more than $200,000 dollars, as the demand for these high-end vehicles worldwide is accelerating.

The new Shelby American headquarters is set to open December 1, but in the meantime, everything is business as usual at the old location on Speedway Boulevard.
