8 on Your Side: Residents Upset About Faulty Gate

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS - Gated communities are common in southern Nevada. When the gates work, residents are happy. When they don't, residents become angry and frustrated.

Rosemarie Kudo is one of those mad residents.

"I was just literally stuck," she said. "I couldn't get home. The gate wouldn't open, and the control panel would not work."

It wasn't a rare problem. Kudo says it had been happening for weeks. For some reason, her transmitters wouldn't work. The gate also wouldn't open when she punched in her code on the keypad.

"You keep hitting the button, and you think, ‘Did I forget my code?'" she said. "You finally just sit there and say, ‘Well, let's try this again,' and after several attempts, it finally worked."

Despite numerous complaints by her and other residents to their homeowners association, the gate was never fixed.

"He told me they needed a new box, and no one wants to fork out the money for the box," she said.

Frustrated, Kudo contacted 8 on Your Side.

8 on Your Side spoke with representatives from the homeowners association. While they weren't able to fix the box, they were able to provide Kudo with new transmitters.

"I think it is a band-aid, but it's working right now," she said.

Kudo and the other residents can now get in and out of their development with ease.
