LAS VEGAS -- Nevada Highway Patrol is reopening both directions of traffic on U.S. 95 from Las Vegas Boulevard to the Spaghetti Bowl about 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.

The highway was shut down about 1:15 p.m. A little more than an hour later, a robot could be seen investigating the item.

Beat the Traffic

Trooper Loy Hixson said the item would be detonated, should it turn out to be a dangerous device. A bomb squad investigated the item and determined it was not harmful.

Earlier, Hixson said the item was being treated as a threat to the motoring public.

SLIDESHOW: U.S. 95 Shut Down

A highway worker discovered the suspicious item just before 1 p.m., Hixson said.
