LAS VEGAS - A viewer questions whether U-turns should be allowed at Las Vegas Boulevard and Russell Road.
The viewer says crashes occur almost daily when drivers make legal U-turns from northbound Las Vegas Boulevard to southbound Las Vegas Boulevard at Russell Road.
Drivers make the U-turn at the same time motorists traveling from eastbound Russell to southbound Las Vegas Blvd. have a protected, green right arrow.
County officials agree about the dangers of U-turns at this intersection and have installed a "No U-Turn" sign to eliminate that conflict.
U-turns are allowed at an intersection or on a divided highway where there is an opening. They are not allowed at the crests of hills, on curves, near alleys or driveways or on undivided highways.
U-turns are legal anywhere in Las Vegas, except when a sign prohibits one. A "No U-Turn" sign now does that at Russell and Las Vegas Boulevard.
