LAS VEGAS - A viewer wants to know why crews are repairing three major parallel streets – Decatur Boulevard, Jones Boulevard, and Valley View Boulevard - at the same time.
Traffic officials try to coordinate road projects to minimize effects on adjacent roads or motorists' alternate routes. That is not the case with Decatur, Jones and Valley View.
Funding was the driving force behind their construction. State lawmakers in 2011 approved gas tax funds to pay for the widening of Jones and Valley View. The condition is that these improvements must be completed within three years.
Federal money, meanwhile, is funding the work on Decatur. Crews delayed construction on Decatur as long as possible due to the work on Jones and Valley View. If they don't spend the federal money for Decatur, however, they lose it.
Construction is underway on all three streets. The good news, however, is crews expect to finish the projects on Jones and Valley View by this summer.
