LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police are looking for a driver who they say hit and critically injured a 3-year-old girl and then drove away from the scene.
Police say there were children inside the car the woman was driving when she hit the little girl Monday night in Cliffview Circle near E. Vegas Valley Drive and S. Lamb Boulevard. Police say the woman got out of the car, checked on the girl, and then drove away.
"She's a coward, she's low, and she's wrong," said a friend of the young girl's family. The friend wishes to remain anonymous because she fears for her safety.
Police say the driver is an African American woman who was driving a white four-door sedan when she ran over the 3-year-old. One family friend said she often sees the toddler playing outside.
"She's a very beautiful girl. She's very energetic."
Moises Arrellanos owns one of the buildings in the complex. His son is also 3 years old and says parents need to look out for their kids.
"Hopefully her daughter will get better," Arrellanos said.
Metro Police are urging the driver to come forward.
"Let us know what happened in those seconds before this child was struck and let us know why you chose to get out, look at this child, and get back in the car and leave," Bill Cassell with Metro Police said.
At this time, police are not identifying the little girl. She is currently in Sunrise Hospital suffering critical injuries.
