LAS VEGAS -- Henderson Police closed the case on the double murder-suicide in Boulder City in January that left a Metro police officer, his wife and their 5-year-old son dead.

According the police report, all three victims were shot to death. Max Walters and Michelle Walters were ruled homicides by the coroner and Hans Walters was ruled a suicide.

Walters called Boulder City Police at about 8:20 a.m. Jan. 21 to report that he had shot his son and his wife. He also told the dispatcher that he had started his house on fire, and he was planning on shooting himself.

According to the report, Walters told the dispatcher that his wife was in chronic pain and the medications were not solving it. He also told the dispatcher that his son had seen him shoot his wife, and he had to shoot him. Walters also said he would shoot any firefighter who tried to get near the house to put out the fire.

When officers arrived, Walters came out of the house, waved a gun at officers and then took his own life.

Firefighters then went into the house to put the fire out. They found Walters' son and his wife dead. Michelle Kathryn was found dead in the master bedroom. The boy was found in the front room.

Fire investigators concluded that the fire was started in several places in the home, and that Walters used gasoline to start the blaze.

In the report, colleagues of Walters told investigators that he was giving away items in the days before his death.

One neighbor told police that Michelle took several pills for back pain. A former co-worker at Metro Police also told police that she was addicted to pain pills. He also told police that she had changed after suffering her back injury.
