LAS VEGAS - Viewers say the area near Desert Inn Road and Jones Boulevard is experiencing some of the worst driving in town. Desert Inn is down to one lane, and many motorists are driving recklessly.
Police are aware of the problem. Metro Police officials confirmed last week they are stepping up enforcement in the area.
Desert Inn is down to one lane due to a sewer rehabilitation project. Crews are replacing manholes and sewer lines. They are also working on nearby smaller streets such as Bronco Street and Edna Avenue.
Westbound Desert Inn is down to one lane weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., so it does affect peak travel times. Motorists trying to drop off their kids at nearby Las Vegas Day School can confirm that.
Transportation officials say work along Desert Inn is scheduled for completion in early May, but that's just this segment of the entire sewer rehabilitation project. More roads will undergo work this summer. Metro Police officers, meanwhile, plan to monitor traffic near Desert Inn and Jones until the work is completed.
