New Interchange Coming to I-15 and Cactus Ave.

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Ground was broken Friday on the newest interchange along I-15.

Crews are building a freeway interchange at Cactus Road. A welcome addition to the area for drivers, residents and businesses.

With so many new homes being built in the southwest part of the Las Vegas valley, the commute to and from the area is jammed, drivers said.

Businesses like the Boulevard Bar & Grill, which is just south of the Silverado Ranch Boulevard interchange, has been dealing with increased traffic problems for years.

Kim Blanc, the manager, said her customers are always talking about the traffic nightmare where Silverado Ranch Boulevard connects to I-15.

When the project is done, the interchange could lead to more business because more people will drive past their front door, Blanc said.

People also believe the new interchange will make it safer to drive in the area. Fewer cars will be jockeying for a place in line at overcrowded on-ramps.

Officials hope the improvements will relieve traffic tie-ups at Blue Diamond Road, St. Rose Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

Besides the new interchange, Cactus Avenue will be extended between Dean Martin Drive and Las Vegas Boulevard. There will also be improvements on the road between Polaris and Dean Martin Drive. Traffic signals will also be installed at Las Vegas Boulevard and Cactus Avenue and Dean Martin Drive and Cactus.

According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, the whole project will be finished in 18 months at a cost of $62 million
