Local High School Band to Perform in Macy's Annual Parade

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Foothill High School's Marching Band will perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade next year. Students received the surprise news Friday morning.

Macy's parade staff working secretly with school officials, including band director Travis Pardee, to surprise band members with the news Friday morning.

The band was selected out of hundreds of nationwide applicants to be one of 10 marching bands in the 2014 Parade.

"As someone who grew up on Staten Island, New York, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was a tradition for our family to see every year. Now to be a part of this awesome American experience is a dream come true," said Jeanne Donadio, principal of Foothill High School. "From my first year as principal of Foothill High School, I set the goal of marching in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with our dedicated band director, Travis Pardee.

Bands are chosen 18 months in advance of the parade so they can prepare for the big performance. The parade marches down a two-mile long New York City route and is broadcast to millions of people every year.
