LAS VEGAS -- Going green was supposed to save Leroy Johnson money, but when he went green, a rebate he was promised never arrived.
Johnson's home is powered by the sun, and all of his electronics are powered by it, including his water heater, stove and clothes dryer.
The savings were rolling in on his monthly power bills, but a check for the rebates he was promised from One Energy never arrived. The company told him in the sales pitch that Southwest Gas would give him cash for going green.
Dismayed he never got a check, Johnson called Southwest Gas.
Southwest Gas in Nevada here stated that they were not a part of the program," Johnson said.
Johnson said he feared the worst and thought he had been scammed and was out thousands of dollars.
He called 8 On Your Side to get him the truth and his cash.
"Within two hours I had received a call from Phoenix stating my rebate was being processed," Johnson said.
He received more than $3,000.
With his cash back in hand, Johnson can go back to enjoying his retirement with a cup of tea and listening to the birds sing outside his energy-efficient home.
In addition to the $3,000 Johnson was rebated, he will also be getting $1,000 back in the form of a federal tax credit.
