What a difference two years can make! Our Wednesday's Child candidate today -- Hanna -- last appeared in the Summer of 2011. You'll see how much she's grown since then, but her needs remain the same: she desires a forever family.
Standing atop the rope jungle gym at Sunset Park helped me to see the world as Hanna sees it.
Her prospects look a lot different than when we were at Bonnie Springs two years ago.... And Hanna looks a lot different too.
Back then, she was standoffish with the animals, and seemed unsure of herself.
But fast forward to today, and Hanna shows a lot more maturity.
"When I grow up I want to be a family court judge because I want to help kids who don't have families get families, because I think I can do it when I grow up because I've been in the same situation as some other kids do, and so I want to be able to help kids that need help just like I am getting help because I need help," explains Hanna.
"Hanna is absolutely amazing, she does well in school, as a matter of fact the number one complaint about school is that they don't give homework all the time and sometimes they turning things that she doesn't get a grade," says Vickie, an adoption recruiter with the County DFS office.
Hanna also has a clear idea of what she' looking for in an adoptive family.
"...And so like I really want someone who I know I'm going to be able to trust, and who doesn't disrespect me.." adds Hanna.
Now 12 years old, Hanna is at that age where her hope and her potential is high.
"I can see her doing well in a lot of different families, two parent or single-parent families, think the biggest thing with Hanna is you need to be consistent, you need to be structured, and you need to be prepared to be with her, period. She needs to know who her family is," points out Vickie.
"I guess, the family who is, like, nice and respectful, but is not like too strict, but kinda strict," says Hanna.
