North Las Vegas Mayor Out, Henderson Mayor Re-Elected

LAS VEGAS -- As has become the standard, Tuesday's municipal primary elections were marked with a low voter turnout.

Of the 143,000 registered voters in Henderson, 12.4 percent voted. In the City of Las Vegas, where 153,000 people are registered to vote, just 10 percent cast a ballot. And in North Las Vegas, of the 89,000 registered voters, 10.4 percent turned up at the polls.

Low Voter Turnout Expected in Municipal Primaries

Henderson

In the race for Henderson mayor, incumbent Mayor Andy Hafen won re-election with 54.8 percent of the vote. He was challenged by six other candidates.

In the race for Henderson City Council Ward 3, incumbent John Marz won re-election with 51.7 percent of the vote. 

Las Vegas

In Las Vegas, incumbent Bob Beers won re-election to City Council Ward 2 with 76.3 percent of the vote. In City Council Ward 4, incumbent Anthony Stavros won re-election with 76 percent of the vote. For Ward 6, incumbent Steve Ross won re-election with 52.6 percent of the vote.

North Las Vegas

In the North Las Vegas election for mayor, incumbent Shari Buck failed to win another term in office when candidate John Lee won 53.6 percent of the vote. Buck garnered 35.5 percent. Two other candidates collected about 5 percent of the vote. 

In the race for City Council Ward 1, Isaac Barron garnered 45 percent of the vote and Jared Hardy collected 25.2 percent. Barron and Hardy will face off in the general election.

 For Ward 3, incumbent Anita Wood won re-election with 51.8 percent of the vote.

If a candidate wins by a 50-percent majority, that candidate bypasses the general election and wins the seat. The candidate could be sworn into office as early as this month.
