Aviation Nation Canceled for This Year

Posted: Updated:

LAS VEGAS -- Nellis Air Force Base announced Tuesday it will cancel Aviation Nation 2013, which was scheduled for November 9 and 10.

The 99th Air Base Commander, Col. Barry Cornish, said the event was canceled because of the Budget Control Act of 2011 and the associated sequestration.

Cornish said the $46 billion in cuts to the defense budget means the Air Force has to prioritize combat readiness over activities like the popular air show.

"Aviation Nation is a very popular event for our community, and I deeply regret our inability to host a Nellis Open House this year," Cornish said.

He also said he hopes the air show can return in the future.
