LAS VEGAS -- Bark scorpions are great climbers and can work their way up stucco walls in search of a way into homes.

An exterminator from Williams Pest Control said the company has been receiving about twice as many calls for scorpions since the weather warmed and they expect to receive between 30-40 calls a week as the valley heads into the summer season.

The most common and most deadly are the bark scorpions.

Williams Pest Control owner Royce Williams said scorpions nest underneath potted plants and lawn furniture and their sting can be deadly.

"They're comparable to a black widow in their sting," he said. "They're very dangerous to certain people. Some people it just hurts really bad. Some people they're allergic and can actually die from it."

The arachnids grow to about two inches long and are called bark scorpions because of their light brownish color.

Williams said the best thing to do is to make sure there aren't any hiding places in the yard for them to nest in and to have a professional spray the perimeter of the home every two months.

And if stung, go immediately to the hospital, especially if you haven't been stung before, because you don't know how you will react. This is especially important for children and seniors as the venom can be deadly.
